SAN ANTONIO (June 3, 2022) — As this nation, state, and city continue to grieve alongside the Uvalde community, local leaders also search for ways to stop these tragedies. The United States should not continue this cycle and actions should be taken.
Accountability is needed from the highest level of government all the way to the city officials. Gun safety does not mean threatening the second amendment.
Councilwoman Viagran stands and supports a multifaceted approach. She believes that it's about having more extensive background checks; reconsideration of age limits; the accessibility and availability of certain weapons; and for the security in schools to be given proper resources and training.
"We need to find common ground on a federal level to pass a gun legislation, but if we have a divided congress, we need to push on the state level for gun reform," said Councilwoman Viagran. State Officials should use this momentum and make things right. The Uvalde community should be a reminder that things need to be better, and 21 victims should not be forgotten.
Moms Demand Action encourages for everyone to do their best to understand and find a middle ground. The City Council District 3 Field Office will be collecting donations through the month of June. Gift Cards, Back to School items and messages of hope for the families affected by the tragedy are greatly appreciated.
For more information please contact the Field Office at 210.207.0969.
