ANAHEIM, CA— An Olympic athlete's gold medal was stolein in Orange County this week, and police hope the community will band together to help get it back to its rightful owner. Volleyball player Jordyn Poulter parked her car in a garage in Anaheim Wednesday and within the course of just a few hours, someone had stolen her gold medal and other belongings from inside the car, said Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Jacob Gallacher. "We're putting out a big call for help from the Anaheim community and surrounding areas," Gallacher said. Authorities hope pawnshops and eagle-eyed shoppers on re-sale sites such as eBay and Craigslist will see the purloined medal and help police get it back for Poulter. Poulter won the medal at the 2020 Olympics held last year in Tokyo. She left it in her car on East Lincoln Avenue in Anheim at about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday and by the time she returned to her unlocked car at about 6 p.m., several items were missing, Gallacher said. Anyone who has video surveillance that might be helpful or who witnessed something suspicious is asked to call Orange County Crime Stoppers, which accepts anonymous tips, at 855-TIP-OCCS.
