Shooting Threat Prompts Lockdowns At Multiple San Diego Area Schools

SAN DIEGO, CA — A school-shooting threat prompted lockdowns Thursday at multiple schools in San Diego's North County. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department and San Diego Police Department received an anonymous phone call that said someone was going to "shoot up" Del Norte High School and a nearby elementary school, authorities said. The threat was made from a Google number and delivered with a "robotic" voice. "We take these threats extremely seriously," a San Diego Police officer told media. As a precaution, Del Norte High, Del Sur Elementary, Design39Campus, Monterey Ridge Elementary and Stone Ranch Elementary were placed on lockdown while police officers and sheriff's deputies searched the campuses and surrounding areas, according to Poway Unified School District. Oak Valley Middle School was placed on "secure campus." "We want to assure you there is no evidence of an actual physical threat on any campus," the school district said on Twitter. The district advised families to not come to the campuses to "ensure law enforcement can complete their investigation without any hindrances." By 2:10 p.m., the lockdowns and secure campus protocols were lifted and students were being reunited with their parents, police announced on Twitter. "The investigation continues into the threat," the department said. "There will be an extra police presence tomorrow. We thank our community for their patience." The threat was made just two days after 19 students and two teachers were killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Right now, San Diego Police officers are at Del Norte High School after receiving a threat called into the school.
