Press release from the City of San Antonio: Friday, April 22, 2022 CONTACT: Amador Salazar [email protected] SAN ANTONIO (April 22, 2022) — This Saturday, April 23rd from 10AM to 1PM, San Antonio residents are welcome to attend a homeowner and rental assistance fair at the Neighborhood Place (3014 Rivas St., 78228). The fair will offer a wide range of resources aimed at providing pandemic relief, and stave housing instability that eventually leads to foreclosure and eviction. "As residents throughout San Antonio experience increasing rents and property taxes coupled with the consequences of the pandemic, we are grateful for Congressman Castro and our community partners for coordinating a home assistance fair to help alleviate the financial burden our residents are feeling right now. Coordination and collaboration are how we will successfully help San Antonio residents make it through these turbulent times," said Councilwoman Teri Castillo. During the fair, community groups will be on-hand to help San Antonians access programs and services including: The Homeowner Assistance Fund, a new program funded by the American Rescue Plan that provides up to $40,000 to help households with delinquent mortgage payments and up to $25,000 for delinquent property taxes, property insurance, or HOA/condo dues. The Affordable Connectivity Program, a new program created by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that provides low-income households with a discount up to $30/month on high-speed internet subscriptions. The program also provides qualifying households with a one-time, $100 discount off the cost of a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet. Emergency Vouchers and Rental Assistance to help families secure safe housing or avoid eviction and homelessness. Utility Assistance to help families who are struggling to cover their utility bills. SNAP and Nutrition Assistance Programs to help families afford high-quality, nutritious food. People can qualify for the Texas Homeowner Assistance Fund for the following categories: Mortgage loans Property taxes Property insurance HOA/condo association fees. If you are a homeowner that needs help in applying for property tax exemptions, bring: Your Driver's License or State Issued ID Card If you inherited your home from a family member that has died and their name is still on the property records, bring: (a) A copy of the prior owner's death certificate (b) A copy of the property's most recent utility bill (c) If you have one, a citation of any court record relating to your ownership of the property (such as a probated will) If you receive SSI benefits due to disability, bring: A letter from SSI that you have a disability If you are a member of the following groups, additional help may be available. Bring any documents showing that you are: A surviving spouse of a member of the armed services killed in action A surviving spouse of a first responder killed in the line of duty A disabled veteran or their surviving spouse A partially disabled veteran with donated residence or their surviving spouse If you are a homeowner that has missed mortgage, property tax, HOA, or insurance payments in the past two years and would like to apply for financial assistance, bring: Your Driver's License or State Issued ID Card Past due statements for mortgage, taxes, HOA, or insurance Proof of occupancy (such as a utility bill) Proof of income (such as IRS 1040 form, two months of paystubs, etc.) For more information on the state assistance fund, please visit https://www.texashomeownerassistance.com/ This press release was produced by the City of San Antonio.
