Description
SUDBURY, MA — The Sudbury Fire Department is among a handful of Massachusetts communities that will get a grant from the state to buy supplies to fight the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
A total of $9.6 million in grants were announced Tuesday, and come from the federal Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program. Police and fire departments were eligible for a maximum of $50,000 each, and 65 fire departments and 44 police departments got grants.
Sudbury's approximately $12,000 grant will allow the department to buy personal protective equipment, including disposable medical gowns and n95-rated masks.
Coronavirus cases have slowed down this summer. However, health officials worry that the virus could reemerge as the weather turns colder. Coronavirus will also be circulating during cold and flu season, which could mean even more people seek medical care at local hospitals.
