Happy Thursday, people of Sacramento! Here's everything you need to know around Sacramento today. First, today's weather: Cloudy and cool with a shower. High: 60 Low: 49. Here are the top five stories today in Sacramento: A new tiny house community could be coming to south Sacramento. County leaders have announced plans for 100 tiny homes made from pallets at the corner of Power Inn and Florin roads. It still needs approval from the board of supervisors. But, if the project gets the green light, it could open as early as this summer. (CBS Sacramento) The Sacramento Police Department on Tuesday identified another suspect related to the downtown mass shooting. The police department said it believes 27-year-old Mtula Payton was one of the gunmen. He is wanted on multiple felony warrants that include domestic violence and gun charges. "We've exhausted all of our leads, so we're really looking for the community to provide some more tips and some information on where Payton might be at this point," Sgt. Zach Eaton with the Sacramento Police Department said. "We need to find him and take him into custody, and he is to be considered armed and dangerous at this point, too." Anyone with info is asked to call police at 916-808-5471. (KCRA3) "Love is a torch." That's Jackie Turner's message for all of us in Sacramento. She says when you carry a torch of love into people's darkest hours, it lights their way out. And, given what has happened in Sacramento in the past weeks, it's a message we all could embrace. With a TV movie inspired by her, "One Christmas Wish," Jackie, a former foster youth, says she wants to continue helping unhoused residents and playing music for them. You can find her in parks across Sacramento and Placer counties, as far away as Grass Valley. If you see her, take some love from that torch and pass it along to someone else who may need some light in their lives. (ABC10)A Rancho Cordova father and son were rescued after their car plunged 500 feet down a cliff along Highway 49 in Mariposa County. The Mariposa County Sheriff is calling it "a miracle in the mountains." Nobody saw the car leave the roadway and plunge down the cliff and the car was not visible from the roadway, however an eagle eye Cal Fire fighter heading back from a call happened by soon after and saw some clues to the accident including a road marker that was down. He stopped and saw what had happened and called for rescue help. Four hours later, in the rain and wild weather, rescue crews were able to bring the father and son to safety. They suffered what was referred to as "moderate injuries" and were recovering in a local hospital. (CBS Sacramento)The City of Sacramento has filed a lawsuit against Teichert Construction for non-compliant work and fraudulent billing related to Teichert's work on the Accelerated Water Meter Program. The City's lawsuit contends that Teichert used improper construction materials and methods, that its work did not meet contract specifications and that Teichert billed the City for materials and labor not used in its work. These issues do not affect how the meters track water usage for households. However, they undermine the longevity and durability of the installation, meaning the City will face excessive costs for replacement or repair sooner than intended. If residents have questions about their meters, they should call 3-1-1 or email [email protected]. The City also has developed this FAQ. Under AB 2572, the State of California has mandated that all urban homes and businesses have metered waters by 2025 to reduce water waste and encourage conservation.
