Lead Gardener 5 to 6-hour shifts, five days a week Position Description To help grow food to feed our rescued animal residents and food insecure people in our community. This Lead Gardener is responsible for managing and maintaining our organic flower and produce gardens, greenhouse (currently under construction), and other perennial systems. The position will collaborate with the Founder of Sale Ranch and support the vitality and resiliency of our succession planting model and regenerative program. The role also requires participation in garden tours and training, guiding, and managing daily volunteers' workloads. Primary Responsibilities GARDEN CROP MANAGEMENT Develop, manage, and execute crop plan/calendar (seeding, transplanting, harvesting) Manage seed-saving projects & small seed bank Tend and prune perennials and plantings Identify, troubleshoot, and mitigate crop pests with non-toxic organic solutions. WATERING AND IRRIGATION Managing and implementing irrigation schedule Conduct maintenance and repairs of drip irrigation systems for annual garden beds and perennial systems FARM TEAM & COLLABORATION Train and assist daily garden volunteers Lead garden projects, plantings, and harvests Collaborate with the Founder to support the integration of plant systems GENERAL/MISCELLANEOUS Preparation of gardens for on-site events Harvesting organic foods and flowers for off-site events LOCATION Sale Ranch is in Temecula Wine Country, approximately 25 minutes from the city of Temecula. WORKING CONDITIONS This position is approximately 30hr/week, five days a week. The successful candidate is self-directed and maintains flexibility with a shifting workload. We offer rescue and refuge to animals discarded by our food industry, specifically dairy and hospice to senior horses and those with medical needs.
