Everyone appears to be outraged and very much against animal testing and cruelty. No matter what the pharmaceutical and biotech companies tell you, heinous things are done to animals in labs and not just with mice and rats. If you don't believe me go online and look at pictures of what happens to them. "Ethical treatment" to them means killing them at the end of the testing to put them out of their misery.
