Press release from Fort Bend Independent School District: March 30, 2022 Hello Everyone, It was standing room only at Monday night's Regular Board Meeting because we had so many outstanding students and staff present who were recognized for their exceptional achievements. Congratulations, you make all of us very proud! And thank you Commonwealth Elementary students for kicking off the meeting with your beautiful rendition of the National Anthem! Visual Arts Student Achievements During National Youth Art Month, FBISD schools proudly displayed student artwork on each campus throughout the month of March. Our student art was also on display in District facilities and in various community locations like the Sugar Land Airport and Sugar Land City Hall. I hope you were able to enjoy viewing it. At Monday evening's meeting, we recognized all FBISD students and teachers who earned honors at the Houston Rodeo Art Show. A total of 17 FBISD student works were selected for auction. The students attend Austin High School where they are taught by Nancy Dunlevy and Shehla Sheikh, Clements High School where they are taught by Kelly Chen, Elkins High School where they are taught by Ryan Morales, and Ridge Point Hight School where they are taught by Laura Angeles. Ridge Point Students Selected as State Thespian Leaders Congratulations to Ridge Point High School students Talya Hammerman and Katie Bland who have been selected by their peers from around the state to serve as officers in the Texas Thespian organization. Well done! Students Headed to National Distributive Education Clubs of America Competition (DECA) Students from FBISD's Business, Marketing, and Finance CTE programs competed recently with 4,000 other Texas students at the DECA State Career and Development Conference and have qualified to move on to the national competition. The students took exams, researched, prepared presentations, and participated in on-the-spot role-play activities to advance. We wish them well as they continue in the DECA competition. In 2013, Embrick opened the first STEM classroom at Crockett with no funding. He will travel to Austin at the end of April to attend the awards ceremony where the winners will be announced. Two FBISD Counselors Earn Excellence Awards Two Fort Bend ISD counselors have earned the Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas (CREST) Award. They are Karen Powell from Mission West Elementary and Missy Masters from Cornerstone Elementary. The CREST award recognizes counseling programs that demonstrate effective counseling programs the emphasize a commitment to obtaining results that boost achievement and wellness for our students. Colony Bend ES Assistant Principal Wins State Award Colony Bend Elementary School Assistant Principal Shweta Khade has been awarded a 2022 Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association Award for her leadership and outstanding service. Ms. Khade collaborates with principals and supervisors throughout the state to positively impact student outcomes.
