High: 92 Low 56 Here are the top five stories today in Irving: Irving police officers Travis Allen and Brendon Fowler were recognized by the U.S. Attorney General. The pair received the 5th annual Attorney General's award for distinguished service in community policing. The pair rescued a couple from an icy pond when they fell while trying to take photos in February 2021. (Fox 4 News) Markus Vine, 28, admitted he had pointed a 9 mm pistol at a woman as she tried to get into her car in a grocery store parking lot in August 2020. After stealing the car, Vine drove to a gas station and robbed the attendant there. Fifteen minutes later he drove to another gas station and robbed it as well. He pleaded guilty at trial in May 2021. (Irving Weekly)Emergency officials are asking members of the public to be extra vigilant as the danger from wildfires increases. Emergency crews are monitoring conditions very closely through the weekend as dryness and increasing temperatures combine to create an elevated risk. Last week a fire damaging 600 acres was started by a chain being dragged behind a trailer. (NBC DFW) MacArthur High School grad, Sydnee Johnson, is making history as the only woman doing audio work for NFL Films. She learned her craft beginning at KMAC, the student-run broadcast at the high school. She went on to study at the University of North Texas in filmmaking. Though the industry is heavily male dominated, Johnson says that never slowed her down because she loves the work that she does. (Irving Weekly) The North Texas Road Rage Task force, made up of officers from Irving, Mesquite, Grand Prairie and Dallas and the Texas department of public safety, is looking to find ways to curb traffic incidents caused by road rage. Last month the group issued 333 citations for speeding, aggressive driving and driving under the influence. The group says that traffic accidents could be reduced if drivers just would slow down. (Fox 4 News) Today in Irving: Attend a parenting workshop today at noon put on by the Valley Ranch Islamic Center, 351 Ranchview Drive in Irving. Preparing family for Ramadan is on the agenda. This is a child-free event but babysitting is available. The link to register for babysitting services is here.Learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for women and girls today from noon to 3 p.m. at Brazilian Top Team Irving, 555 W. Airport Freeway, suite 160. The event is for beginners and no previous experience is necessary. There is no fee to attend but donations are accepted. Maybe you're ready for some music. Why not listen to the Sounds for Spring with the New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving in concert today at 3:30 p.m. The event is being held at the Irving Arts Center, 3333 N. MacArthur Boulevard.
