Dallas's pretty much only carnivorous plant gallery hosts a whole new series of March open houses.
Spring is coming, so look busy. The Texas Triffid Ranch, Dallas's pretty much only carnivorous plant gallery, bucks tradition and celebrates March coming in like a gorgonopsid and out like a diprotodont with a series of Saturday open houses, starting on March 5 and ending on March 19, all running from noon until 5:00 pm. (March 26 is reserved for an appearance at the Oddities & Curiosities Expo in Dallas Fair Park.) While Venus flytraps and North American pitcher plants are still dormant for the winter, the gallery currently features carnivorous plants from around the world, including Asian pitcher plants (Nepenthes), South American pitcher plants (Heliamphora),sundews (Drosera), butterworts (Pinguicula), and bladderworts (Utricularia), all in unique custom enclosures designed and constructed by gallery owner Paul Riddell. In addition, the gallery is undergoing a radical change over the next month, and regular visitors get to view those changes as they're being implemented, with most of those changes involve new carnivore enclosures. Admission is free and masks are highly recommended. For more information, directions, and various ephemera, please visit http://www.texastriffidranch.com
