SAN FRANCISCO, CA — More than 100,000 tulips blanketed Union Square on Saturday and residents were invited to pick bouquets for free. The massive tulip garden opened to the public at 1 p.m. and was set to close by 4:30 p.m. "By that time, all 100,000 tulips will have been picked and will soon be giving many American households a wonderful feeling of early spring," organizers said. The American-produced tulip garden was set up near the Powell Street BART station. Famed floral designer Sarah Campbell, founder of Intrigue Designs, and fellow designer Jordan Marx were expected to be at the event to craft a floral gown. The pair appeared on Netflix's "The Big Flower Fight." March 8 is international women's day and attendees were encouraged to pick tulips for their loved ones.
