Amazing project putting the spotlight on foster youth and the opportunity to connect and help those aging out. Come & learn & connect. ** Life is challenging. Imagine facing the future with few options, little help and many confusing hurdles ahead. As a foster youth at age 18 - you age out of the system. You are essentially on your own. It's a scary thought. It's also a very real reality for thousands of foster youth aging out. Each year - 23,000 young people age out of the U.S. Foster Care each year. Let that sink in. This program hopes to make a difference and instill an ICAN attitude. ** Elizabeth Sutherland from New Port Richey wrote a book about her foster care journey called No Ordinary Liz. She chronicles her frustrating, scary and heartbreaking journey. She also shares stories of hope and friendships from strangers who gave her a chance. ** She is the inspiration behind the amazing I CAN Foundation of hope, giving back and making a difference. The foundation is inviting select under-recognized youth like foster teens aging out on a whirlwind amazing life changing sailing adventure to the Caribbean. They will head out for a 3 month opportunity to learn skills, be immersed in other cultures and learn an I CAN attitude to carry them beyond this adventure. The hope is this grounds them, excites them and lifts spirits and hope for a future filled with opportunity. ** You are invited to join us to learn more about this awesome sailing opportunity. You can come on board this amazing sailing vessel to see where the youth will live for months with the seasoned crew. ** You will also hear from Elizabeth Sutherland herself and from the terrific I CAN Foundation team dedicated to changing lives, spirits and lifting these young people up to show them people care and give them hope. You'll hear about opportunities to get involved too. **The boat will dock in St. Pete in early March. Guests are invited to come aboard to learn more about this uplifting project that is all about creating ripples of possibilities.** *** Check in at Poynter Park first, then you'll be escorted on a tour on the Sailing Yacht Wisdom. In Poynter Park, you can listen to volunteers, sailboat staff, organizers and the inspiration - Elizabeth Sutherland herself, about her journey and hope for this project and others in the foster system. ** ** Light refreshments will be served! **
