TEMECULA, CA — A candlelight vigil to show support for Ukraine is planned this weekend at Temecula Duck Pond.
Organizers from Murrieta's United Church of the Valley said they hope the "lights in the darkness" will show support for the people who have fled Ukraine, those who remain, as well as the "brave dissidents of Russia."
The lighting of the candles will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, according to church moderator Sherian Spencer.
Church members will also be handing out 50 fresh sunflowers to those who gather, Spencer said.
"Let our candles be the light of hope and our sunflowers be a symbol of our prayers," she said. "You do not need to be a member of the congregation to attend. All are welcome."
According to its Facebook page, United Church of the Valley values "spiritual growth, education, environmental harmony, inclusion, interfaith understanding and social justice."
"We listen for the voice of a still speaking God and in all things seek to understand the will of a just and loving God," the page reads.
Temecula Duck Pond is located at the southeast corner of Rancho California and Ynez roads.
