NEWARK, CA — Over the weekend, Newark Patch asked on our Facebook page, "If you could bring back one local business that closed in town (it doesn't matter how long ago), which would it be?" Two dozen people responded with long lost restaurants, stores and entertainment venues that added value to their lives. When Brenda Mackey-Pundt named Hesters Rib Cage, Donna Foley Brewer responded, "My Mom waitressed there." Cathy Barry misses Pasta Presto, Kristee R Weaver and Mitchell Conner would like to see Cattlemens return, Noami GN named Bakers Square, and Susan Poindexter Paglianti has a soft spot in her heart for JT McHarts Pizza. The Farm House and Sinodinos each got two votes. Sherri Koster swears by the minestrone soup served at Farm House. Therese Reis and Wendy Buchanan miss El Burros where "they served a killer drinks." Stores that people would like to see return are Orchard Supply Hardware, Tri-City Sporting Goods, Raley's and the Foxy Lady. If you have a sweet tooth, you probably miss Leatherby's or Farrells, which each received one mention. For entertainment venues Lido Lanes bowling alley, Karts n golf, and an unnamed roller skating rink are remembered fondly. Kellie Archer summed up the feelings of many when she said, "I agree with all of the above. Sad to see how many great places we've lost over the years."
