High Winds Prompt Some School Closures In San Diego County

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — Schools in the Julian Union Elementary, Julian Union High, Mountain Empire Unified and Spencer Valley school districts will be closed Tuesday due to strong winds, the San Diego County Office of Education announced. The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning until 4 p.m. Tuesday for the county's mountains. West winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 70 mph are expected, according to the NWS. Also see: Weather Advisory, Warnings Issued For San Diego County High winds will make travel to and from schools in the area challenging, especially for high-profile vehicles such as school buses, said Music Watson of the Office of Education. "The safety of students and school staff is of the utmost importance to San Diego County school districts," Watson said.
