Description

Enjoy a beautiful day out visiting the Filoli Historic House and Gardens in Woodside. At the end of March we are just in time to see the tulip beds blooming. You can visit the historic house museum, stroll 16 acres of formal gardens and stop at the Clock Tower Shop. Lunch is on your own at the Quail's Nest Café on site, or bring your own bag lunch and eat at the picnic tables located at the entrance. The estate consists of 654 acres nestled along the slopes of California’s coastal range. It is situated on the unceded ancestral lands of the Ramaytush Ohlone. The historic house was built in 1917 as a private residence. Filoli was opened to the public in 1977 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The property is considered one of the finest remaining country estates of the 20th century, featuring a 54,000+ square-foot Georgian revival-style mansion, 16 acres of exquisite English Renaissance gardens, a 6.8-acre Gentleman’s Orchard, and a nature preserve with 5 distinct ecosystems. In case you are wondering where the name "Filoli" came from: Mr. Bourn arrived at the unusual name by combining the first two letters from the key words of his personal credo: Fight for a just cause. Love your Fellow Man. Live a Good Life.
