Morning, neighbors! Jeri Karges here with the latest copy of theSacramento Daily. First, today's weather: Nice with plenty of sunshine. High: 68 Low: 36. Here are the top five stories today in Sacramento: Sacramento's all time record for a mid-winter dry streak is 44 days and the forecast calls for continued dry weather. Wednesday was the 40th day in a row during the rainy season without any precipitation. The good news is that the National Weather Service says 3 inches of snow was recorded early Tuesday in Reno, about 3 inches fell at South Lake Tahoe and Homewood, on Lake Tahoe's west shore and about an inch in Sparks and Carson City. (KCRA3) California Highway Patrol is looking for a driver after a crash that brought traffic to a standstill early Wednesday morning in Sacramento. The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-5, near the 43rd Avenue exit. The cause of the crash is under investigation. (CBS Sacramento) Not even a week after racist writing was discovered at a pair of Sacramento City Unified School District water fountains, the school district announced Tuesday that racist graffiti was discovered along an outside wall at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School when students returned after the Monday school holiday in honor of Lincoln's birthday. The school district said it is working with the Rancho Cordova Police Department and that it will take "appropriate action" toward any student or person associated with the school district. (KCRA3) In murals throughout Sacramento, Aliyah Sidqe has depicted themes ranging from a family breaking bread to a young girl wishing on a dandelion. In her work, Sidqe said she wanted to pay tribute to her Black roots. Today, Feb. 17, the Sacramento State University Union gallery will host a closing reception for Sidqe's exhibit "The Babymama Effect." "It's an opportunity to come out and meet the artist," Rebecca Voorhees, the gallery manager said. "Because of the campus being totally virtual the first two weeks, we felt like it wasn't a very good opportunity to have an opening reception, so this is kind of unique." (StateHornet.com)The Sacramento City Council Tuesday unanimously approved planning entitlements for a new teaching hospital and medical school planned for the site of the former Sleep Train arena in North Natomas. The project was spearheaded by Vice Mayor Angelique Ashby, in coordination with the Sacramento Kings. The California Northstate University Medical Campus and adjacent development are projected to create about 8,000 jobs over the next 10 years. Eventually covering 183 acres, the development would also include a medical school, housing, a variety of supporting services such as commercial and retail uses, medical offices, a school, a childcare center and a care facility for active seniors.
