REDONDO BEACH, CA — As erosion happens along the bluff path in Redondo Beach, one walkway has become a safety concern for residents as edges of the area are starting to fall into the cliffside, officials said Tuesday. The upper walkway between Knob Hill Avenue to Topaz jetty, near Ainsworth stairs, needs repairs, Nicole Mooradian of the County of Los Angeles Department of Beaches and Harbors told Patch. So far, it's an ongoing process on the bluff. "We've coned off the parts that are hazardous and are looking to install better fencing," Mooradian said. The county has a preliminary plan and will determine the next steps, including which contractor to work with and what the plan will be. "The edges of a walkway are a safety hazard so we've blocked them off," Mooradian said. It's still usable for people in the area. "We are trying to work as quickly as possible to get it fixed," she added. The county is also planning to add barrier fences, including a solution for Avenue A, where the retaining wall could fall and now plans are coming to add an ADA compliant beach access ramp. "If we believed it posed imminent danger we would close it," she said. Many of the access ways in Redondo Beach date back to the 1960s, and a new ramp is expected to increase access to beaches.
