BROOKLINE, MA — The school department has extended the deadline for families to decide whether or not to pursue a school-based instruction option or remote-only option this school year. Families now have until Wed., August 26 to tell the district, or change their options. If a family doesn't tell the district, their student will be automatically enrolled in in-person instruction, according to officials. Brookline is offering families the option to have their students come back to school in-person or a start the school year remote-only through the district's Remote Learning Academy. The in-person RemotePlus model includes the following: Kindergarten students returning back to full-time in-person learning, starting Sept. 16.Students in grades 1-12 beginning the year fully remote beginning Sept. 16. Students in grades 1-12 will return to school buildings for in-person learning on a hybrid schedule as buildings meet enhanced ventilation targets. The district has also updated its health and safety measures - including the purchasing of personal protective equipment (PPE) and portable air filters for classrooms - as it continues to develop plans to reopen and as the state updates its guidelines. For more information on what health and safety protocols we will enforce, you can review the district's frequently asked questions (FAQ) and pages 23 - 30 of the school reopening blueprint.
