He retired as the founding Senior Pastor of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia, on December 15, 2019, where he had pastored for 38 years. He is a straightforward communicator who uniquely connects God’s unchanging truth with a diverse culture through compelling and creative teaching. He and his wife, Anne, live in Marietta and have three grown sons, three daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren. Doug Hewitt is CEO and cofounder of 1951 Coffee Company in Berkeley, California. In May of 2015, Doug began working with Rachel Taber on founding 1951 Coffee Company, a non-profit organization focused on the training and employment of refugees as baristas in addition to advocating for refugees in the larger community. 1951 Coffee started their barista training program in February of 2016 and opened their first café in Berkeley in January of 2017 Gateway Seminary is a theological graduate school that educates men and women to take the Gospel to the nations. Known as one of the most multicultural seminaries in the world, Gateway Seminary’s diversity enables it to equip and challenge students to more effective ministry leadership in the 21st century.
