Arrest Made Regarding Threatening Social Media Post Against San Rafael School

Press release from the San Rafael Police Department: December 13, 2021 San Rafael, CA –San Rafael Police Detectives arrested a juvenile after making threats against Davidson Middle School via social media. The threat made statements to harm students and faculty and was taken seriously by other students and parents. Through an around-the-clock investigation, the individual responsible was arrested in less than 24-hours. Detectives noted that the arrested juvenile did not have the means to carry out the threat posted. Police remain in communication with Davidson Middle School officials about the details of this case. On 12/10/21, at 8:00 PM, the San Rafael Police Department began receiving reports from concerned parents and students about a social media post. The social media post threatened to cause harm to students and faculty at the Davidson Middle School in San Rafael. SRPD contacted school officials and made them aware of that threat and that it was being taken seriously and investigated. SRPD Officers tracked down the post and immediately notified Detectives, who started working with the social media provider to identify who was responsible and whether the threats were credible. After obtaining information from numerous resources, the location of the suspect was identified. On 12/11/21, Detectives went to the residence that was the source of the threat and interviewed a juvenile who was responsible for posting the threat. Just after 3:00 PM, The juvenile was arrested for making criminal threats and was booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall. During the contact with the juvenile, it was determined that the juvenile did not have the means to carry out the threats that had been posted. SRPD takes all threats seriously and is committed to ensuring that students, parents, and faculty are safe while attending school. We are grateful to the parents and students who did the right thing and notified SRPD immediately upon seeing the social media post. This is a perfect example of, "See something, say something."
