MILL VALLEY, CA — Mill Valley's Parks and Recreation Commission is considering replacing its grass sports fields with artificial turf as a water-saving measure amid an ongoing drought, The Marin Independent Journal reports.
The commission discussed the option at a meeting Wednesday, according to the report.
Replacing a significant portion of the city's sports fields with artificial turf figures to reduce water use substantially, the report said.
The city would only consider installing turf on fields that are at least 75,000 square feet, the minimum requirement for regulation soccer fields, according to the report.
