First, today's weather: Fog in the a.m.; mostly sunny. High: 65 Low: 42. Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: Coyotes are on the prowl in Citrus Heights and, unfortunately, small animals are their natural prey. Neighborhoods near parks and waterways in Citrus Heights are seeing an increase in domestic animal killings, attributed to an influx of coyotes in the area. Wildfires disrupted their habitats and they are making their way into more populated areas in search of food and water. Citrus Heights has the perfect combination of small waterways and lush green spaces for the coyotes to call home. Citrus Heights police says residents should call them if they see injured animals. They also advise not to leave trash outside, as it could attract the coyotes. (CBS Sacramento) There is a new call for action by business owners along Del Paso Boulevard trying to get dangerous and blighted buildings cleaned up. Business owner Dennis Peterson says the problem is so bad, he's closing. The final decision came after the most recent ceiling collapse. "To me, it's a symbol of the properties not being kept up by the property owners," Peterson said. Daniel Savala is the executive director of the Del Paso Boulevard Partnership. Savala is putting pressure on a group of property owners who have buildings in disrepair. He's asked city hall to increase response to dangerous building cases filed here. (CBS Sacramento) The Mercer Clinic Holiday Pet Baskets program celebrating its 27th year distributing gifts for the pets of the homeless. The pet gift bags will be distributed at the Dec. 11 Mercer Clinic for the Pets of the Homeless. Its monthly clinic provides an important community service including vaccinations, flea and tick control, endo-parasite treatment and helping to provide spay and neuter services. The Mercer Holiday Pet Basket Program started in 1995 by a group of UCD VMTH employees. The group distributes 130 baskets annually - 100 for dogs and 30 for cats. (Davis Enterprise)On November 29, 2021 around 11:50 a.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 700 block of Lampasas Avenue regarding a report of a shooting. At the scene, officers located an adult male and adult female who had sustained at least one gunshot wound. The male was transported to a hospital with serious injuries and the female was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The male victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The Sacramento County Coroner's Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
