Welcome to the Sacramento Daily Patch Newsletter! This is where you will find all of the best news and events happening in Sacramento for Friday November 19th, 2021! First, today's weather: A morning shower. High: 58 Low: 46. Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: Sacramento City Unified School District will be part of a pilot program to use artificial intelligence to track "stop-arm" violations. The District has partnered with a company called BusPatrol to put cameras on five school buses to deter drivers from speeding past buses when their stop-arm is out. The cameras take pictures of the license plates of cars that keep driving when the arm is out. BusPatrol says the license plate data of the cars that violate the law will be stored on each bus, and then the company will build an "evidence package" that they will send to police so citations can be made. (KCRA3) Every year, Sacramento County's Gifts from the Heart Program brightens the lives of more than 3,000 children, disabled adults and seniors by bringing them wrapped gifts before Christmas. Now in its 33rd year, the program is in full swing. Gifts from the Heart provides presents for vulnerable clients under the care of Child Protective Services and Senior and Adult Services. Gifts from the Heart has added a gift registry at major online retailers. Supporters are welcome to purchase a new gift from any online vendor and have it shipped to the Business Park address. You can also drop off new unwrapped gifts/toys for any age group by Thursday, Dec. 9, at one of the county lobby locations. Cash donations are also gratefully accepted. The crash involved three vehicles and happened in the area of 42nd Street and Broadway around 5:30 p.m. No other details were released. (KCRA3)The number of homicides in Sacramento this year is nearly double that of 2020. So far in 2021, there have been 39 homicides in the city of Sacramento. In 2020, there were 23. (FOX40)The City of Sacramento Office of Arts & Culture has been selected to receive an American Rescue Plan grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in the amount of $500,000 to help the arts and cultural sector recover from the pandemic. Sacramento City Council must adopt a resolution to accept the grant at an upcoming Council meeting. More details on how to apply for support through the program will be made available in early 2022.
