Coroner IDs Man Hit By Car In Cathedral City

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — Authorities Monday identified a man who died after being hit by a car in Cathedral City over the weekend. Joseph Gonzalez-Lederer, 61, a Sacramento resident, was pronounced dead Sunday after the Cathedral City Police Department responded around 7:40 p.m. to a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of East Palm Canyon Drive and Cree Road. Authorities arrived to find Gonzalez-Lederer lying in the middle of the road with major injuries. Cathedral City Fire Department personnel provided medical aid, but he died from his injuries at the scene. The Riverside County Sheriff's Corner Office identified Gonzalez-Lederer on Monday following the notification of next of kin. The cause of the collision was under investigation and it was unknown if drugs or alcohol played a part.
