PETALUMA, CA — A 100-mph chase on Highway 101 in Petaluma early Saturday morning ended with the arrest of a motorcyclist who did not have a driver's license, police said. San Rafael resident Sufiyan Baporia, 20, was arrested on suspicion of evading police and reckless driving, the Petaluma Police Department said in a statement. A patrol officer spotted the motorcyclist speeding on Lakeville Street just before 12:30 a.m. The motorcyclist sped up after the officer began following him and began passing other vehicles in an unsafe manner, police said. An officer attempted to flash emergency lights and sound a siren, but the suspect kept speeding onto Highway 101, leading police on a chase at speeds over 100 mph, police said. About a mile down Highway 101, the rider finally came to a stop. Baporia was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail. "Vehicle pursuits are very dangerous to the offender, the officers, and our community," police wrote in a statement.
