CA's Highway 1 Shut Down After Rockslide In Big Sur

BIG SUR, CA — The main thoroughfare through Big Sur was shuttered for 40 miles Wednesday morning after a rockslide sent debris into the roadway, according to Caltrans. Highway 1 was fully closed in both directions after 8 a.m., said Jim Shivers, interim public-legislative affairs manager for Caltrans District 5, on Twitter. The transportation agency did not have an estimate for when the road would reopen. The heavily trafficked highway was closed from Ragged Point in San Luis Obispo County to Fuller's Point in Monterey County while officials responded to the rockslide. There was no estimate for reopening. UPDATE: Highway 1 is fully closed in both directions from Ragged Point in San Luis Obispo County to Fullers Point in Monterey County due to a rockslide.
