PALM DESERT, CA — The Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Palm Desert station has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety, authorities announced Wednesday. The grant will pay for additional enforcement measures, including DUI checkpoints, bicycle and pedestrian safety programs and operations focused on suspected "distracted drivers," according to Deputy Varon Potter. Funding was provided through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and is expected to last until September 2022.
