Welcome to the Sacramento Daily Patch Newsletter! This is where you will find all of the best news and events happening in Sacramento for Friday October 15th, 2021! First, today's weather: Pleasant with plenty of sun. High: 79 Low: 48. Here are the top stories in Sacramento today: Recall the Inderkum High School teacher who was caught on camera off-campus saying that an Antifa flag in his classroom was meant to "make fascists uncomfortable." That teacher is now going through the official termination process, and over 100 people, students, parents and others, are coming to his defense. "What I'm hearing personally is that Mr. Gipe is a good teacher, students are appreciative of his approach," explained community activist and CEO of Ascribe Educational Consulting Sonia Lewis. The school board maintains that it was not just the video, but pages of charges and evidence against the teacher outside of the video that are the centerpiece of the firing procedure. In the coming days, Gipe will receive a formal letter of termination from the district, which he will have the opportunity to appeal. (CBS Sacramento) The Aftershock Festival returned to Discovery Park this last weekend, welcoming a record-setting 145,000 fans. The event is estimated to have brought in $30 million to the local economy, according to Visit Sacramento. Roughly 75 percent of attendees traveled to Aftershock from outside the region. "Each year, Aftershock draws people from all over the country and gives us the opportunity to showcase some of the amazing amenities of the Sacramento County Regional Parks system," said Liz Bellas, Director of Regional Parks. "We are glad that we were once again able to safely host this event at Discovery Park and look forward to next year's event!" Aftershock will return to Discovery Park again in 2022, with the festival being held the weekend of Oct. 6 – 9. (Saccounty.net)The supply chain crisis is beginning to be felt in stores in the Sacramento area. Merchants are having to order weeks in advance and shelves are going bare. It is likely to continue, and even worsen, for some time - including through the holiday season. One Granite Bay merchant has some advice for us. ""If you're looking for a specific item or if you're out and about and you say, 'Oh, I want to get that for so and so for Christmas,' get it when you see it because that specific item may not be here," Whitt and Whimsy Toy store owner Megan Wyatt said. (ABC10) There's a new mosquito breed in town, and this is one annoying little fellow. The Aedes aegypti mosquitos have been detected in Sacramento. A couple of things make this creepy critter unique from others in the mosquito family. First, the Aedes prefers humans. They turn up their noses at other warm-blooded animals. You may get several bites from a single mosquito who is trying to get his full meal deal from you. Secondly, these dudes like the fall - and the spring and the summer. Most mosquitos are summertime nuisances, but not these guys. And they'll bite you morning, noon or night, and bring the same types of infections that others carry. They can lay their eggs in very little water and they stay viable dry for a long time. So, get rid of any and all standing water, including puddles as small as something left in a bottlecap, and ask your neighbors to do the same. We'd like to send this one back to Asia where he came from. (ABC10)Humpty Dumpty may be getting a new wall - or four of them to house a new place to write about his travails. As part of the $35.3 million in this year's state budget for programs and improvements to benefit families throughout the city, Fairytale Town will be getting $1.8 million to help pay for a long-planned expansion. Fairytale Town plans to break ground by next summer on a new story center where children can write, act out and produce their own stories. In addition, nearly $7 million of the budget will go to expand youth employment opportunities and nearly $10 million will be spent to improve access to the Lower American River Parkway.
