Here are the top stories today in San Diego: A local parents group sued the San Diego Unified School District to block the district's recently approved COVID-19 vaccine mandate for staff and students over the age of 16. Let Them Choose β€” whose stated mission is "to protect families' rights to make personal medical decisions and students' right to an in-person education" β€” alleges that the district's vaccine mandate plan approved last month will harm unvaccinated children who will be excluded from the classroom. (City News Service)The San Diego Housing Commission completed a pilot program to construct five Accessory Dwelling Units β€” sometimes referred to as "granny flats" β€” and provide a report on the lessons learned to help San Diego homeowners considering building the units. (City News Service)A military search-and-salvage team has recovered a U.S. Navy helicopter containing the remains of five crew members killed last summer when the aircraft crashed and sank in the ocean during routine flight operations off the coast of San Diego, Navy officials announced. (City News Service) Two people killed in a plane crash in Santee have been identified as the pilot of the plane and the driver of a UPS truck clipped by the plane in the crash. The twin-engine Cessna 340A crashed at the corner of Jeremy and Greencastle streets in a residential neighborhood in Santee, a city in eastern San Diego County. Officials said the plane crashed into two homes and struck the delivery truck and a fire hydrant.
