ROUND ROCK, TX — The Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department has officially created Central Texas' first ever competitive power soccer team.
The parks department partnered with local nonprofit Cerebral Palsy Awareness Transition Hope to create The Green Machines.
The team held its first scrimmage on Sept. 25 against the San Antonio STRAPS Scorpions and are scheduled to host multiple practices and games throughout the remainder of 2021, city officials said.

Power soccer is the first competitive team sport designed and developed specifically for power wheelchair users. Those who can participate in the sport are persons with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, stroke, spinal cord injury and other disabilities.
The game is played in a gymnasium on a regulation basketball court. Two teams of four players attack, defend and spin-kick a 13-inch soccer ball in a skilled and challenging game similar to able-bodied soccer, officials said.
Are you or anyone you know interested in joining The Green Machines? Officials said registration is currently open to players that are at least 5-years-old, able to safely follow directions and possess the ability to handle their power wheelchair independently.
In addition to power soccer, Round Rock Parks and Recreation offers a variety of adaptive and inclusive programming providing opportunities for youth, teens and adults with disabilities to acquire skills that enable them to participate in leisure experiences and enhance their involvement in community programs.
