Description
Press release from the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce - News: 2021-10-05 Republican John Lujan and Democrat Frank Ramirez will advance to a runoff after the September 28 Special Election for Texas House District 118. Neither candidate secured the "50% plus one vote" necessary to avoid a runoff. Representative Leo Pacheco gave up his seat in the Texas House to begin work at San Antonio College, sending House District 118 into a special election. Five candidates filed to run for HD 118. Lujan received 41% of the vote and Ramirez received 20% of the vote. Ramirez secured more votes than the two other Democratic candidates running for the seat. Desi Martinez (D) received 18% of the vote, and Katie Farias (D) received 12% of the vote. Lujan secured more votes than the other Republican candidate Adam Salyer, who received 9% of the vote. Your Chamber is partnering with the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, and the South & West Chamber of Commerce to host a candidate forum for the HD 118 Special Runoff Election. The Candidate Forum will be held at Palo Alto College. The forum is an opportunity to hear directly from the candidates and learn how they intend to listen to and support the San Antonio business community. While the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce does not endorse any candidate, we do recognize the important role our elected officials play in shaping a business-friendly environment. Governor Abbott will announce the date for the runoff election. Count on your Chamber to share election day information and the forum details once announced.
