Faux Wood Painter/Wood Fill

Are you great at blending wood fill so it matches the surrounding wood? We have a project for you. We are wrapping our ceiling beams and posts with unfinished alder wood. The wrapping is largely done but we are having trouble matching the color of the wood fill to the wood itself. I'm including a photo of the beams before the fill was added. You can see there are some gaps. The fill itself is too yellow and needs to be painted or replaced with something that blends in better.
