SAN MATEO, CA — San Mateo County firefighters conducted a prescribed burn Friday in Pescadero in a 30-acre burn area. We installed the RAWS (Remote Automatic Weather Station) out here months ago to monitor and track the weather, making sure burning conditions would be optimal. #TomKatRanchVMP #CaWx pic.twitter.com/58a8PQAuGp— CAL FIRE CZU (@CALFIRECZU) October 1, 2021 The burn was part of a multi-year process in conjunction with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to explore how prescribed burning can reduce the risk of wildfires in tandem with regenerative planned livestock grazing, according to the San Mateo County Fire Department. It was expected to reduce brush on a ridge north of Pescadero. The burn area was pre-treated with masticators, according to the San Mateo County Fire Department.
