SAN MATEO, CA — Over 700 volunteers helped clean up San Francisco Bay and the Marina Lagoon shorelines on Saturday as part of Coastal Cleanup Day, with San Mateo volunteers showing up at Ryder Park.
Volunteers collected 15 cubic yards of debris, 1.5 cubic yards of recycling and five pounds of cigarette butts, according to the city of San Mateo.

In San Mateo, participants were awarded for picking up the heaviest item, strangest item and most valuable item.
