Tampa's Hispanic Heritage Poster Finalists On Display At TPA

TAMPA, FL — Tampa Mayor Jane Castor's Hispanic Heritage Committee is celebrating the finalists of the annual Hispanic Heritage poster contest by displaying the 12 winning posters at Tampa International Airport. The Mayor's Hispanic Heritage Committee received more than 150 entries from 30 schools throughout Hillsborough and Pasco counties. Members of the Hispanic Heritage Committee, along with Castor, selected the winning entries. These entries will be on display from through Oct. 15 in the airport's main terminal between P.F. Chang and Hard Rock Cafe. Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. The city of Tampa Mayor's Hispanic Heritage Committee was formed in 1988 as a city employee volunteer committee to preserve and celebrate Tampa's rich Hispanic culture while educating students about the importance of this heritage by mentoring students, hosting school supply drives and providing scholarships to community colleges and universities. Poster contest winners were chosen in elementary, middle and high schools categories as well as a separate digital category. The winners are: Elementary School First place — Carlos Yeguez-Araujo, age 10, a fifth-grader at James Hammond Elementary School. Second place — Ryder Gorman-Delgado, age 7, a second-grader at Westchase Elementary School. Third place — Panguitch Noice Oliveros, age 9, a fourth-grader at Westchase Elementary School. Middle School First place — Kloe Perez, age 11, a sixth-grader at Tomlin Middle school. Second place — Bella Rosa Perera, age 11, a sixth-grader at Academy of Holy Names. Third place — Ava Marie John, age 13, an eighth-grader at Orange Grove Middle Magnet School of the Arts. High School First place — Venecia Garcia, age 14, a ninth-grader at Howard W. Blake High School. Second place — Alizee Grazier, age 14, a ninth-grader at Braulio Alonso High School. Third place — Maggie Stockard, age 14, a ninth-grader at Blake High School. Digital First place — Samantha Sutton, age 12, a seventh-grader at Webb Middle School. Second place — Dayna Lurie, age 16, an individual submission. Third place — Johnathan Rosales, age 11, an individual submission.
