NOVATO, CA –Novato City Councilmember Amy Peele has resigned from her post. Peele announced her resignation at Tuesday's City Council meeting, citing "the demands of the position as impactful to her mental and physical health," city officials said in a statement. Peele is the second Marin elected official to resign in less than two months. Former Mill Valley City Councilmember Tricia Ossa is other. Ossa cited personal reasons for her decision, noting that she plans to move to Oregon to be closer to family. Peele's resignation went into effect Wednesday. She said her decision followed consultation with family members. "I leave this post proud that I have kept true to my original intentions: to work hard, learn what I could, to serve my community, to think globally while acting locally, and to do so with honesty and integrity," Peele said in a prepared statement at Tuesday's meeting. "The entire City Council, City Manager and staff have been nothing short of extraordinary – working hard and long hours to further the growth and stability of Novato," she said The City Council will weigh options to replace Peele at its Sept. 28 regularly scheduled meeting. "Councilmember Peele is a fervent community advocate and has a true servant's heart," Mayor Pat Eklund said. "She will be truly missed on the City Council and by staff.
