Description

Exciting opportunity to grow your professional and leadership skills, network, and give back to the Bay Area community! Who We Are: Huckleberry Youth Programs is a non-profit providing critical intervention and preventative care to underserved youth in the Bay. We are guided by our mission to educate, inspire and support underserved youth to develop healthy life choices, to maximize their potential, and to realize their dreams. For over 50 years, Huckleberry Youth Programs has partnered with Bay Area youth and families to advance social justice and equity in our community. In 1967, Huckleberry started the first runaway youth shelter in the nation, when the act of running away as a youth was considered a crime; we later advocated for federal legislation that ultimately decriminalized the act and allocated funding towards healing, rather than punitive services for runaway youth. Over the years, Huckleberry has expanded upon its restorative, youth-centered services, using a trauma-informed framework to collaborate with youth and families to build healthier relationships and more vibrant futures for themselves. What We Do: Huckleberry services include primary and reproductive care, counseling, case management, health education, juvenile justice diversion, and college access to underserved youth and families. Huckleberry’s longevity is a testament to the agency’s values, and our ability to innovate, adapt and grow to meet the dynamic needs of our community. Each year, Huckleberry hosts two major FUNdraisers along with smaller, socials gatherings like Cocktails for a Cause/bar nights, exclusive shopping and dining experiences and shows/performances. What's the Huckleberry Young Professionals Board (HYPB)?: HYPB is a group of young professionals who are passionate about Huckleberry's mission and are interested in using their knowledge, skills, and network to raise awareness and mobilize support for Huckleberry programs. We run a major fundraising event/gala each year, and host smaller fundraisers throughout the year (such as guest bartending at local bars for tips). We also are helping Huckleberry to create/run volunteer opportunities & build partnerships with our local corporations. Why You Should Join the HYPB: * Because Huckleberry's mission resonates with you * Because you want to give back to an awesome cause * You're looking to grow your professional development skills * You're hoping to sharpen your leadership skills * You'd like to network with other community-minded young professionals. Board Applications We're accepting Board applications! Limited membership spots available! If you are 21+ in age, reside in the Bay Area, are passionate about our mission, and are able to commit ~4 hours/month to the organization – we’d love to hear from you! Huckleberry’s mission is to educate, inspire, and support under served youth to develop healthy life choices, to maximize their potential, and to realize their dreams. Since 1967, we have accomplished this by providing San Francisco and Marin youth and their families with a network of services and opportunities by caring peers and adults. For teens and their families everywhere, adolescence can be a difficult time. Many low-income youth face additional barriers, risks and pressures, making these years even more critical. Though challenging, adolescence presents a unique opportunity to change course and make choices that will lead to a more promising future. For more than 50 years, Huckleberry has partnered with teens and families to overcome adversity. www.huckleberryyouth.org
