First, today's weather: Clear throughout the day. High: 105 Low: 69. Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: Hiram Johnson High School was closed on Tuesday after a suspect barricaded himself in a home nearby overnight Monday night. The hours-long standoff with police ended when the suspect was shot and killed by officers after he fired on them. The standoff happened in the 3700 block of Redding Avenue. Though the situation was resolved by school time, the area was an active crime scene, so students were asked to stay home. (KCRA3)And if you just can't get enough police standoffs, there was another one that unfolded on Monday in West Sacramento. A suspect barricaded himself inside a West Sacramento home after leading police on a car chase Monday afternoon, forcing the residents of the home to leave immediately, which they did. Police brought the situation to a peaceful resolution. The suspect at the center of the incident still has not been identified by police and it's unclear if he has a relationship with the residents. Authorities will only say that the situation has been resolved. (CBS Sacramento) It was a scary but spectacular scene early Tuesday morning when a car burst into flames after a crash on Highway 99. While the pictures are dramatic, thankfully, no one was injured. It is unclear what led to the crash or the ensuing fire. Traffic along NB Highway 99 was backed up through the early morning. (CBS Sacramento) Sacramento gas prices soared over Labor Day weekend. Prices in the Sacramento region are averaging around $4.35 per gallon, according to AAA. That's the highest price since March 2012. Still, AAA said the majority of people choosing to travel over the Labor Day weekend did so by car. A spokesperson says it is expecting demand to drop off a bit after the weekend. The association is also expecting gas prices to reflect that and start declining.
