Jack London Aquatic Center On-the-Water and Land GARBAGE Cleanup! We invite you on a Grand-Garbage-Go-Getting-Adventure Jack London Aquatic Center On-the-Water and Land Garbage Cleanup! We invite you on a Grand-Garbage-Go-Getting-Adventure, connect with nature, protect and clean your waterways, love your land while having FUN with your community. We'll have cleanup teams working “On the Water” via kayak, boat, and stand-up paddle board and "On the Land" via foot. Team captains will lead “On the Water” groups to shoreline garbage hotspots. We need many "On the Land" volunteers. Hosted by I Heart Oakland-Alameda Estuary, Mary Spicer and the City of Oakland. Event Partners: California Canoe and Kayak, the East Bay Rowing Club and the Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation. ON THE WATER WATERCRAFT DETAILS: "On the Water" volunteers can bring their own watercraft - OR - rent super discounted kayaks from California Canoe and Kayak [ $25 single kayak/$40 double kayak per day ] and paddle to hard-to-reach garbage hotspots. REGISTRATION DETAILS: IF YOU WANT TO VOLUNTEER ON LAND > REGISTER THROUGH THIS EVENTBRITE PAGE. IF YOU ARE BRINGING YOUR OWN KAYAK, SUP OR BOAT TO JLAC > REGISTER THROUGH THIS EVENTBRITE PAGE. If you are bringing your watercraft you must load in your gear, sign waivers and be ready to get on the water by 10AM at Jack London Aquatic Center at 115 Embarcadero, Oakland, CA 94606. Please give yourself time to park, get your gear and get down to the dock and on the water by 9:00 AM at CCK's Jack London launch site. Our event guides will meet you at CCK and will leave the dock at CCK at 9:00 AM to guide you to the JLAC site. EVENT MUST HAVES: !!! MOST IMPORTANT: Wear shoes with sturdy shoes to protect your feet when you walk and paddle the shores. !!!! Even though event is outside we'd like participanats to wear a mask and observe social distancing. BRING: A water bottle, snacks, sunscreen, an extra layer, and sturdy shoes (even if you are paddling). We'll have cleanup supplies on site, but feel free to bring your own gloves/buckets/bags if you'd rather use your own! SCHEDULE: 9:00 AM RENTAL KAYAKERS - Renting from California Canoe and Kayak LEAVE for JLAC. 9:30 - 10:00 AM SIGN IN - All volunteers "On Land" and "On Water" sign in at JLAC. Including paddlers that rented and paddled from CCK to JLAC. Don't forget to sign up for the raffle too. Bring your coffee and snacks. 10:00 AM- WELCOME ORIENTATION & SAFTEY TALK - CLEANUP STARTS Please don’t clean until you listen to the safety talk. Clean up teams will be assigned at this time. All "On the Water" teams ready to get on the water after safety. 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM - TRASH CLEAN UP. We have a lot of garbage to GET. 12:00 - 12:30 PM THANK YOU! We'll come back together and load up the City of Oakland trash truck + Raffle Gifts. MOST IMPORTANTLY TAKE PICTURES OF YOU BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE. 12:30 PM - DONE - CCK Paddlers paddle to CCK. THE CLEAN WATER PROGRAM: www.cleanwaterprogram.org The Clean Water Program works to keep pollutants like litter, pesticides, automotive chemicals and other harmful substances out of Alameda County’s creeks, wetlands and the Bay. The Program also helps business owners and managers understand water pollution prevention regulations that affect them, and adopt best practices to stay in compliance. Mary loves the water and wants to make the bay clean and healthy for birds, fish, fowl, seals, dolphins and humans. She teaches Stand Up Paddling, rows, outriggers and paddles every week on the water in Oakland and Alameda. Mary is a life and work coach that empowers clients to take the courageous actions that will design their lives for success and authenticity.
