Press release from the San Antonio Public Library: Christine Deffendall August 20, 2021 In Ahmed Aziz's Epic Year, by Nina Hamza, Ahmed is less than enthusiastic about moving from the only home he's ever known in Hawaii...to his father's former hometown in Minnesota. But Minnesota is where his dad can receive treatment for the disease threatening his life. In Hawaii, Ahmed happily coasted through school. In Minnesota, his new language arts teacher is one of his dad's best friends, so the expectations for Ahmed are high. On top of that, Ahmed gets the chance to learn about the uncle he never knew, but whom he resembles in uncanny ways. As if all these changes weren't enough, Ahmed has never been the new kid before, and now has to deal with not just an unfamiliar school, changing seasons, and his dad's new medical routine, but a bully set on making his life miserable.
