First, today's weather: Clear throughout the day. High: 80 Low: 54. (Wait! Does that say a high of 80 degrees?? And the weather service says the smoke will be clearing. Get out there, Sacramento! This is your chance to enjoy the great outdoors!) Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: COVID-19 cases continue to surge and local hospitals are beginning to get concerned. As of Aug. 18, 428 people in the county were hospitalized with a COVID-19 diagnosis. A hundred people are in the intensive care unit. "We have surpassed the numbers for the summer surge of July 2020 and we are on track to either reach or even exceed the numbers for the winter surge. So, we still have some concerns, especially about the impact on our hospitals," said Dr. Olivia Kasirye, Sacramento County public health officer. (KCRA3) Your days of working in your jammies may be coming to an end. A Robert Half survey found that 73% of Sacramento employers want their workforce to return to the office full time. The survey showed once COVID-19-related restrictions completely lift, only 12% of employers are expecting to allow employees to decide whether to return and 15% will allow "hybrid" models where employees work remote some days and will be required to be in the office on others. (FOX40)It's Orville Wright's birthday and and we are celebrating Aviation Week in style in Sacramento. "This week is an opportunity to celebrate the ways aviation has changed the way we live – and what the future can be." Cindy Nichol, Director of Airports for Sacramento County said. You can choose lots of different ways to celebrate this mode of transportation here in the River City. The Aerospace Museum of California always has fun, interactive programs going, and the Capital Airshow will be at Mather Field Sept 24-26. (Saccounty.net)The Sacramento Kings have released their preseason schedule. According to a press release, the Kings will begin the preseason on Oct. 4 at 7:00 p.m. against the Phoenix Suns. Tickets for the preseason go on sale Monday, Aug. 23. but Kings fans can get access to tickets before the general public by signing up on Kings.com for free. (ABC10)We thought the smoke would be cleared out by Friday, but it is still lingering in some places in the county. The good news is that there is a good chance that smoke will clear in downtown Sacramento and places west as we go throug the day on Saturday.
