About the ProgramThe Fraser Institute’s Economic Freedom of the World (EFW) index has been gathering data and rating countries’ level of economic freedom since 1996. The index measures the consistency of a nation’s policies and institutions with the ideals of economic freedom including secure private property, freedom to trade and enter markets, limited taxation and regulation, and monetary stability.
Currently, the EFW index includes 165 countries and presents ratings as far back as 1970. The index allows scholars to study age-old questions about the consequences of economic freedom on our standard of living and a host of other socio-economic outcomes.
Join us as EFW’s founding co-author, Dr. Robert Lawson, discusses the methodology and basic findings from the index.
