Seeking Dynamic Individual as Personal Assistant for Executive with Disability Position type: Full-time and part-time positions available (weekday and weekend shifts available) *Flexible with student scheduling* Pay: Competitive wages based on skill set and experience; health benefits available after 3-months Location: Walnut Creek, CA About Dr. Coble-Temple: Dr. Alette Coble-Temple is a licensed psychologist for the Department of State Hospitals, a core faculty member at JFK School of Psychology at National University, and a political advocate who speaks across the nation. Her clinical work for the state of California requires her to conduct virtual forensic evaluations on a regular basis. She is routinely booked to provide keynote speeches and educational workshops to professional organizations. In addition to her paid employment, she volunteers on several national non-profit boards and committees, providing leadership development for professionals with disabilities. How to Apply 1. Position Overview: The personal assistant to Dr. Alette Coble-Temple supports her work as a licensed clinical psychologist. The personal assistant undertakes a variety of personal care, administrative, clerical, and managerial tasks. Primary responsibilities of this position include managing appointments and calendars, responding to emails, research for trial preparation, project management, formatting presentations, documentation management, scheduling events and appearances, transcription, note-taking, scanning, running errands, shopping, organizing, and some personal care. Additionally, primary responsibilities include accompanying Dr. Coble-Temple on business travel (air, car, rail) as permitted per COVID-19 state travel guidelines. While no experience in this particular kind of work is needed, strong candidates must have a demonstrated history of good judgment and responsibility. Previous experience is not necessary (in fact those new to the work are preferred!) but dependability is an absolute must. I am a wheelchair user with some disability gadgetry. I manage my life interdependently and employ 4-5 assistants to help me do so. Assistants must be willing to perform personal care tasks including feeding and toileting. This position is onsite in a private home. During the course of the pandemic, adherence to precautionary measures per employee policy is required. This is a physical position, so applicants must be comfortable walking, squatting, bending, standing, and lifting. Candidates with prior knowledge of psychology, Mac computers, multi-tasking, clear communication, detail orientation, and time management skills are preferred. A friendly and compassionate personality and being fairly logical are definitely helpful. To do this work a person must be fluent in English. Details of the Job: • 10-40 hours/week: weekly hours are negotiated three weeks ahead according to what will best serve your needs and Dr. Coble-Temple's. This includes daytime or evening hours, weekdays and/or weekends, and holidays. How many hours you work is up to you! Essential Functions of the Job: Lifting up to 65lbs., service animal care, personal care tasks (assistance during meals, toileting, etc.) General Responsibilities: • Able to complete basic level personal care tasks • Assists with cooking under the direction of Dr. C-T • Manages multiple email accounts • Responds to inquiries • Coordinates travel arrangements to evaluations, appearances, meetings, etc. • Drives Dr. Coble-Temple’s van as needed for work purposes • Transcribes voice files for emails and other correspondences • Maintains social media presence • Conducts research in preparation for policy events and meetings • Opportunity to advance in position and assist in clinical forensic evaluations Qualifications: • Female (due to personal care aspects of the position) • Must be willing to complete basic personal care tasks (feeding meals and physical assistance in restroom) • Ability to lift 65lbs • Valid Driver’s License and able to drive long distances (sometimes 3-4 hours in a day) • Be smoke and scent-free • Education: High School Degree or an equivalent amount of education and experience • Proficiency with Macs or willingness to learn • Must have a valid Drivers License and clean DMV record • Must be able to pass a Department of Justice background check • Must be comfortable with dogs (Dr. Coble-Temple uses a service dog and has additional pets) • Have reliable transportation Desired Skills/Personal Characteristics • Willingness to learn how to navigate disability advocacy • Eagerness to learn and incorporate constructive feedback • Positive, flexible, and professional can-do attitude • Resourceful, thoughtful problem solver • Efficient work style, with attention to detail where needed, excellent memory • Strong work ethic and shows up on time • Works energetically and is a good listener • Comfortable communicating by text, email, and phone, respectful of privacy • Capacity to evolve into this position long-term rather than planning on leaving the area How to Apply 1.
