This event is presented by Music Matters and Children of the Rainforest, in partnership with The BOA Foundation. Why build a center for cultural and spiritual study: Traditional education affirms the dignity of indigenous communities and their culture. A culture without dignity and power is easily exploited. Officials in support of deforesting the Amazon deny indigenous cultures the right to education and access to entitled funding in attempt to weaken them. Their goal is to remove indigenous land rights and exploit the resources of the rainforest. This project of building a center for cultural and spiritual study is much more than constructing a building. It will serve to educate the children, inspire the community, and advance Yawanawa culture. This project represents the resurgence of Yawanawa tradition and culture. To this day many youth do not fully speak their native language because Portuguese was forced onto them by colonizers. The building of a center for cultural and spiritual study will offer children and teens the space to learn and strengthen their cultural practices. About our partner The BOA Foundation: The Boa Foundation is an NGO that works in alliance with indigenous communities to preserve and protect sacred land, culture, and ancient wisdom. We support projects including strategic land buybacks, restoration of native ecosystems, cultural exchange, and sustainable living solutions. BOA holds the vision of a world vibrant with cultural and natural diversity where we value all life as sacred. We cultivate alliances with Indigenous leaders to support all elements that contribute to their traditional stewardship of land. We partner with our international community in a strategic and whole hearted response to the crises the Earth and humanity are facing. Indigenous wisdom holds the key to a healthier understanding of our role in the ecosystem, and by supporting those who hold that wisdom we help all life thrive. Children of the Rainforest is an event series in Los Angeles, produced by The Boa Foundation, to support our projects that benefit Indigenous children and youth in the Amazon Rainforest.
