FRENCH VALLEY, CA — One man was killed Thursday afternoon in a head-on traffic crash in French Valley, authorities reported. The fatal wreck occurred at 2:21 p.m. on southbound Winchester Road, near Benton Street. Raymond Ayala, 48, of Hemet died at the crash scene, the coroner's bureau reported. One other person suffered moderate injuries, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. Winchester Road between Benton Street and Auld Road was closed during the crash investigation, according to Murrieta police. No other details were immediately released. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
