Poetry Slam and Screening of Ken Burns' Muhammad Ali A special celebration of Muhammad Ali in the heart of Tampa’s original boxing culture – Ybor City. This event will be packed with interesting conversation, insightful interviews, and creative expression. The evening kicks off with an Ali inspired poetry slam followed by a special preview screening of Muhammad Ali a Film by Ken Burns, Sarah Burns, & David McMahon. A panel discussion about the film with area sports champions will explore the fascinating life and philosophy of Ali follow the screening. This event is free and open to all, however, registration is recommended. ABOUT THE FILM Muhammad Ali brings to life one of the best-known and most indelible figures of the 20th century, a three-time heavyweight boxing champion who captivated millions of fans throughout the world with his mesmerizing combination of speed, grace, and power in the ring, and charm and playful boasting outside of it. Ali insisted on being himself unconditionally and became a global icon and inspiration to people everywhere. Muhammad Ali a Film by Ken Burns, Sarah Burns and David McMahon premieres September 19th at 8pm on WEDU PBS.
