MONROVIA, CA — The Monrovia Unified School District's Board of Education is expected to approve the purchase of 1,500 Chromebooks during Wednesday's board meeting. If approved, the purchase would provide new laptops for students in kindergarten as well as in fourth, sixth and ninth grades, according to a staff report. The total cost would be $600,000 and be paid for from the district's Expanding Learning Opportunity funds, which is grant money provided by the state. The purchase is part of the Board of Education's efforts to give every student in the district a Chromebook, Superintendent Ryan Smith previously said in a statement. "Integrating Chromebooks into our classrooms presents an opportunity for us to continue to personalize and accelerate learning," he said. "Providing access to Chromebooks also allows for learning to continue beyond classroom walls." The Board of Education is scheduled to meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held virtually and streamed online. Community members can email their public comments before the start of the meeting.
