Description
We will find a calm and cooling yoga practice to balance out the Summer season. Afterwards, we will lay down for a nourishing sound bath Summer According to Ayurveda, the science of health native to India, summer inspires the pitta dosha. The doshas are the bodily humors that help to create one’s individual constitution, and there are three different doshas: vata, pitta, kapha. Pitta is driven predominately by the solar force, so when the natural cycle of the seasons brings us to the sunny summer months, it is important to pacify the natural pitta inside our bodies so that we aren’t meeting the hot, fiery external climate with a similar internal energy. In doing so, we allow ourselves to enjoy the full excitement and thrill that summer brings, without being flooded by too much of one energetic force. How to balance Pitta energy? During this time of year, a good counter for the sunny weather would be to create a lunar current within the body by focusing on activities and foods that are cooling. This approach will nourish your system and help increase your energy levels. Movement To gently get the body open and flowing, we will be performing very simply asanas (or yoga poses) that is appropiate for any level, no yoga background required. All of the poses taught will send a calming wave through the nervous system and serve the body’s attempts to self-regulate. Meditation Once the body has been stretched, you will be guided to lay down in a comfortable yet meditative position to experience the Crystal singing bowls. In this mediative state, your body will begin it's own internal healing processes in a gentle, yet powferul experience. A Sound Bath is a deeply- immersive, full-body listening experience that intentionally uses sound to invite gentle yet powerful therapeutic and restorative processes to nurture the mind and body. After a few minutes of guided focus on the breath, the remainder of the experience is filled with different sounds and frequencies being introduced in succession. The sounds are created by a variety of overtone-emitting instruments including tuning forks, Himalayan and crystal singing bowls, shruti box, and tingsha bells. When you sink into a Sound Bath and guide your awareness to your listening, you allow your brain waves to slow, shifting from a more active state to a more relaxed state, or even a dreamlike state. The sounds introduced during a Sound Bath are an invitation into a deeper state of consciousness, an opportunity to unplug from external stimuli and to gain perspective on what’s going on within you. The goal of the experience is to invite deep rest and relaxation, and explore self-inquiry and self-discovery.
